A Return to Neutrals
November 22, 2022
When it comes to new construction and interior design, we’ve been living in a world of grey for the better part of the last decade. Deep charcoals, blues, blacks, and greys have dominated the design world. We’ve seen moody exteriors, black windows, highly saturated paint colors and all the drama one could wish for. However, like all design trends eventually do, grey is on its way out.
Here come the neutrals. Slowly but surely earth tones have been making their comeback, but in a new and refreshed way that isn’t trying to rival the 2010 taupes you’ve been painting over the last few years. It’s a return to warm, comfortable, and inviting spaces. Often a combination of soft neutrals paired with warm accents, giving us that slight hint of drama that we aren’t quite ready to let go of.
The 2022 Sherwin Williams “Color of the Year” was SW9130 Evergreen Fog. You might be thinking that green isn’t a neutral, but when done in the right saturation, it is. Evergreen Fog is a perfect example of being able to add color to a space, while still having neutral earth tone vibes. We’ve been seeing Evergreen Fog paired with warm whites and soft beiges, a perfect combination of soothing yet statement making. Sherwin Williams continues with the earth tones trend with their 2023 “Color of the Year” SW9081 Redend Point, a blush beige tone that suggests warm hints of the desert.
The key to creating that perfect soft blend that’s all over Instagram and Pinterest is pairing these cozy earth tones with the right colors. Sherwin Williams SW7008 Alabaster and SW7551 Greek Villa are both warm whites that you can pair with a multitude of earth tones. Mix in a natural wood floor visual, mixed metal lighting and plumbing fixtures, and you’re on your way to a perfectly soft and inviting home.
The beauty of this neutral trend is that when making selections for your new home, the options are limitless. Our designers can help you start with that neutral base, and slowly incorporate the remaining elements and finishes on your wish list; creating a home that’s both timeless and personalized.
